Smoking Vote
Hundreds of people were at the state capitol today hoping to persuade members of the house to pass the smoking ban bill.
Pagent Organizer, Stephanie Marion said, "It's going to pass. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that it's going to pass."
She continued, "Our Legislators are getting a feel for how the people really feel about these smoke free air laws and how we take a stand against cancer."
Cancer survivor, Linda Dewar said, "I just had surgery not even a week ago but I'm out here fighting."
Today, the House of Representatives takes up anti-smoking legislation that was passed by the Senate about a week ago.
Meanwhile, the American Cancer Society spent the day on the capital lawn reminding lawmakers that they can make a difference in the fight.
And smoking, lung cancer and heart disease are just a few of the battles in that war.
Representative Rick Shaff (R) said, " Many states have successfully passed this legislation and it hasn't hurt business and I'm encouraged we'll move forward as well. I actually think it will bring more business into resteraunts and bars because it will bring those people that don't like the smoking environment into those facilities and it will raise profits."
Governor Granholm says she supports anti-smoking legislation too, and looks forward to signing it once it hits her desk.
