Autopsy results indicate a 5-year-old girl whose body was found buried along the River Raisin in Monroe County
suffocated after inhaling dirt.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Department says in a news release that Nevaeh Buchanan either was buried alive or had her face forcibly pressed into dirt by another person.
The autopsy conducted by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office could not determine the exact manner of death.
Authorities have said Nevaeh had no broken bones or other wounds showing outward signs of trauma.
Nevaeh's body was found June 4 in a shallow grave in Raisinville Township, 35 miles south of Detroit.
She disappeared 10 days earlier from outside her Monroe apartment complex.
No one has been arrested in the girl's death.
