NEW YORK (AP) - The defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies have jumped to a 1-0 advantage in this year's Fall Classic by overpowering the New York Yankees 6-1 on a crisp fall evening at Yankee Stadium.

Chase Utley tagged Yankee left-hander CC Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) for a pair of solo home runs and Cliff Lee outpitched the Yankee ace for the win. Lee toyed with the powerful Yankees lineup, striking out 10 and allowing just six hits. He struck out Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez three times.

Utley connected in the third and sixth innings. He also walked in the first inning when he set a postseason record by reaching base in 26 straight games, breaking the record held by Baltimore's Boog Powell from 1966 to 1971. Utley had half of the four hits allowed by Sabathia, who struck out six in his seven innings before heading to the showers.

Raul Ibanez (rah-OOL' ih-BAHN'-yehz) delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning. The Phils added two insurance runs in the ninth.

Lee's most overpowering inning was the fourth when he struck out Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh), Rodriguez and Jorge Posada. The Yankees' only threat came in the sixth.

Lee blanked the Yanks until the ninth inning when New York scored an unearned run on a throwing error by Jimmy Rollins.

The Game 1 winner has gone on to win the last six World Series.

Game 2 is Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. Pedro Martinez, who was a long-time Yankee nemesis when he pitched for Boston, goes for the Phillies against A.J. Burnett.
