Indianapolis man drowns in northern Michigan river
Comments 0 | Recommend 0INDIAN RIVER, Mich. (AP) - Police say a 64-year-old Indianapolis man drowned in a northern Michigan river after his canoe capsized.
The Cheboygan Daily Tribune says David Chattin and his wife were headed to Copper Harbor in the western Upper Peninsula for a fall color tour when they stopped Saturday in Indian River for a short canoe trip.
Robert Wagner, police chief in Cheboygan County's Tuscarora Township, says the couple was canoeing around a bend in the Sturgeon River when their canoe capsized, throwing them both into cold water.
Chattin's wife told police they both tried to get back in the canoe but it overturned, trapping her husband underwater. Chattin later was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Indian River is about 250 miles north of Detroit.
