1 township, 3 Lakeview drives confuse ambulance crew

NORVELL TOWNSHIP (AP) - Authorities say an ambulance rushing to help a man injured by a chainsaw was delayed about 30 minutes because it went to the wrong address.

The crew responded to a location on Lakeview Drive on Wamplers Lake in Jackson County. But Otto Mahnke had been injured outside his cottage on Lakeview Drive on Sweezey Lake -- more than six miles away.

Sheriff's Lieutenant Steve Rand says Jackson County is eliminating duplicate street names to avoid more incidents like yesterday's. But he says the process isn't complete -- and the county still has a total of seven streets called Lakeview.

Mahnke is in good condition at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
