Jackson Man Sentenced in Crash Death of EMT

A Jackson man has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading no contest to striking and killing an emergency medical technician who was helping a stranded motorist during snowy weather.

Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Archie Brown on Wednesday sentenced 47-year-old Charles Bacon.

He pleaded no contest in May to charges that include failure to use due care and caution while passing a stationary emergency vehicle, causing death.

Twenty-three-year-old Cheryl Kiefer of Brooklyn was killed January 26, 2008, while assisting a motorist whose car had spun off Interstate 94.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with the Washtenaw County public defender's office, which represented Bacon.
