LANSING (AP) - A final piece of Michigan's state budget puzzle still hasn't fallen into place.

Lawmakers recessed a morning meeting aimed at moving forward on a spending plan for the state's Department of Human Services.

There is disagreement with Governor Jennifer Granholm over a plan that would privatize more state workers in areas such as foster care and adoption.

Some lawmakers say increased privatization would save money to be used to hire other department workers at the local level to help children and families.

But labor unions don't like the idea because it would reduce the number of state employees they represent.

Lawmakers have until Wednesday to complete the budget. Much of the work is done.
