Acid Spill in Michigan

July 14, 2009 - 2:31 PM

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) _ State police say a box containing

nitric acid fell off a truck and began leaking, closing one lane of

a western Michigan highway while crews cleaned up the spill.

Officials say the accident happened

about 8 a.m. Tuesday on Michigan 6 in Kent County's Cascade

Township, about 10 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

One of the highway's four lanes was closed Tuesday morning

during the cleanup.

Nitric acid is highly corrosive and can cause severe burns.
