4th of July Pet Safety

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

While you're busy celebrating this holiday weekend, your pet might not be enjoying the festivities.

While we enjoy 4th of July fireworks and the sights and sounds that come with them, they can be torture for our pets.

The week surrounding the 4th of July is typically one of the busiest for local animal shelters because dogs, especially, get spooked and run off.

The Ingham County Animal Welfare set up a booth after the parade Friday to help educate mid-Michigan animal lovers, and they tell us dog's hearing is ten times more sensitive than humans so the fireworks are likely to cause your dog some anxiety, stress and fear.

But there are things you can do to help.  Those at Animal Welfare recommend that you make sure your dogs tags are on so if they do run off they can be tracked back to you, and when in doubt, keep Fido in the house with the windows closed to help reduce stress.
