Ann Arbor officials to look at limits on student rental housing

ANN ARBOR (AP) - The city council wants to limit student rental housing near the University of Michigan campus.

Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje tells The Ann Arbor News that he is opposed to more student rentals popping up in neighborhoods of single-family homes.

Hieftje says a six-unit rental could bring as many as six cars into a neighborhood.

The newspaper reports the city council is contemplating zoning changes in the Lower Burns Park area. Two- and multiple-family dwellings would be rezoned to single-family. Homes currently used as student rentals would be allowed to remain under the plan until their use is changed.

Ann Arbor landlord Richard Fisher opposes the plan and says he bought his property as an investment.
