MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) - A former Roseville High School French teacher accused of having sex with a teenage teacher's assistant has been sentenced to three years probation in the case.

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark Switalski says at Wednesday's sentencing that 42-year-old Janelle Batkins of Harrison Township was an ``ideal candidate'' for probation. She has no previous criminal record.

She must also complete 240 hours of community service.

Batkins pleaded no contest in May in a deal with prosecutors to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.

Authorities say Batkins and the then-17-year-old male student had consensual sex during the 2006-07 school year.
