Security Camera Debate
The mayor of Lansing has vetoed the City Council's decision to cut $44,000 from the Lansing Police Department.
The City Council wanted to use the money to hire an additional Council staff member.
Today ABC 3 spoke with Mayor Bernero. He tells us he wants to use the money to install five more neighborhood security cameras.
Now the City Council could override the veto, but the mayor says that decision would send the wrong message.
The Lansing Police Department installed six security cameras earlier this year. The mayor says those cameras have already had a positive impact, resulting in dozens of arrests.
