People Rush to Fill up Over Concerns of Soaring Gas Prices

Soaring Gas Prices?

September 12, 2008 - 4:59 PM

Rumors of gas escalating to $5 or more a gallon have people scrambling to fill up in the wake of hurricane Ike.

Gas in the Lansing area is holding steady just less than $4 per gallon but lines have been long at gas stations all day.  Chaos errupted due to what we are told are rumors of high gas prices at stations in michigan.

Still, the U.S. Coastal areas under threat from Ike are lined with oil refineries that process about 25% of the nation's fuel, that's seven million barrels per day.  Officals fear if these refineries remain idled for an extended period of time, the nation could be looking at a severe gas shortage.
