Police say a blood sample will determine whether charges will be filed against a 23-year-old Grand Haven man following a head-on collision between two speedboats that killed a man.

Divers recovered the body of 53-year-old Edward Johnson of Fruitport Sunday afternoon in the Grand River after searching 13 hours over two days.

A passenger in his 19-foot boat, 48-year-old Barbara Briggs of Fruitport, also was thrown off the boat after the collision in Spring Lake Township, about 25 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Press says Briggs was in stable condition Sunday with a broken back and broken vertebrae.

Police say the 23-year-old suspect was arrested Sunday and released pending lab results.
