A local organization is working to feed thousands of kids in need.
Over 200 kids will live another year thanks to the over 400 volunteers that met at the Lansing Center Friday to package food for starving kids in Haiti.
"It's going to be just a wonderful wonderful thing for those kids to have food every day," said volunteer Phyllis Steinhart.
Members of Feed My Starving Children say each of the bags assembled to be sent to the children contains enough food for six kids to eat for a day, and for only $0.17-per-child.
Donna Goulait, a volunteer from the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, said, "Because we have so much in this country and I just wanted to help give to others that are more needy."
The portions are tiny. Each child will get a one cup serving of rice, soy, dried vegetables and a vitamin packed chicken powder.
This cup of soup will be all he or she gets for the entire day, but it will be enough to keep them alive.
"There's 18,000 children that are going to die today because they don't get enough food," said Ahren Grebner of Feed My Starving Children.
That number doesn't include the kids that are sick or malnourished.
Altogether about 100,000 meals were bagged in Lansing Friday.
