Lansing Battalion Chief Laid To Rest

Battalion Chief John Dyer Honored Friday

September 5, 2008 - 4:46 PM

The Lansing Fire Department laid to rest one of their own Friday.  Memorial services were held for Battalion Chief John Dyer, who many say was not just any firefighter.

With bagpipes blaring, and his team by his side, Firefighter John Dyer was laid to rest.  He was just 47-years-old when he was taken by a massive stroke.  He spent the last 25 years saving lives all over Mid-Michigan.

Friends, family and co-workers all spoke at Dyer's funeral.  They say it wasn't really a job for him so much as it was a calling.

In 1990 dyer started facing the camera's and taking on the roll of public information officer for the L.F.D.  Dyer's family is taking up a collection in his honor, proceeds will go the john dyer scholarship fund.
