Top Michigan Democrats suggest splitting delegates

LANSING (AP) - Top Michigan Democrats working to get Michigan's delegates seated at the Democratic National Convention have suggested splitting the delegates 69-59 between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Clinton says she should get 73 delegates based on the results of the Jan. 15 Democratic primary, 18 more than Obama.

Obama, who took his name off Michigan's ballot, wants the 128 pledged delegates split evenly.

The suggested compromise would be halfway between the two proposals. Clinton would get four fewer delegates, while Obama would get four more.

The foursome made its proposal Tuesday in a letter to Michigan Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer.

The Democratic National Committee stripped Michigan of its delegates after it moved up its primary.
