Cash For Clunkers Gets Underway

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Hundreds across mid-Michigan turning in their old car and driving out with a brand new, affordable, and fuel efficient one Friday as the Cash For Clunkers program gets underway.

The car allowance rebate system offers $3,500 to owners who get rid of their cars rated at less than 18 miles per gallon to purchase a vehicle that gets at least 22 miles a gallon.

If the new ride gets at least 10 miles per gallon more than the trade in a $4,500 rebate will be granted.

For SUVs minivans and pick-ups a two mile per gallon improvement is required.

Chrysler is matching the $4,500 dollar government incentive whether your car fits the program, or not.

The automaker is offering up to $4,500 dollars on top of government incentives or zero percent interest financing on most of its 2009 Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge models.

That promotion runs now until the end of August.
