Barack Obama will make his first trip to the Detroit area as president when delivers a speech in Warren.

This afternoon's event is by invitation only and will be held at the Macomb Community College South Campus.

Obama comes at a time when Michigan's unemployment is the highest in the nation at more than 14 percent. The Detroit area's jobless and home foreclosure rates also are among the highest in the country.

He stressed during last year's presidential campaign his support for jobs and Michigan's troubled auto industry. Obama's last visit to the state was on Oct. 2 as Illinois senator.

Two of Detroit's three automakers have since filed for, and emerged from, bankruptcy after receiving billions of dollars in federal loans.
