After about 20 years of hard work, those on Lansing's South side will soon have a new place to gather for community events.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and the board president of Lansing's school district were on hand for today's groundbreaking for the southside community center.
Mayor Virg Bernero says south side residents have been fighting for this facility for about two decades now.
"This is gonna be a great gathering spot for families for children, this is gonna be a great new resources, especially in this economy." Said Mayor Virg Bernero.
The more than two-million dollar project will transform hill center into a facility for community activities and recreational programs sponsored by the city of Lansing's parks and rec department.
