Michigan holding off on recalling state troopers
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LANSING, Mich. (AP) - About 55 laid-off state troopers who expected to be recalled now that the state budget is in place will stay off the job a little longer.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm's spokeswoman said Wednesday that the budget office needs a week to 10 days to go over the Michigan State Police budget the governor signed last week.
Liz Boyd says the governor doesn't want to recall the troopers and then have to lay them off again in 60 to 90 days if the January revenue estimating conference shows cuts are needed.
The state is struggling to keep the budget balanced as revenues decline.
Boyd says the governor intends to recall at least some of the 100 troopers she laid off this summer to cut costs, but didn't say how many.
