All contracts with state workers now approved
LANSING (AP) - Three state employee unions that turned down tentative contracts ended up with the same deals they'd rejected after the state Civil Service Commission accepted the recommendations of an impasse panel.
The Michigan Corrections Organization, AFSCME Council 25 and Michigan State Employees Association had rejected the tentative contracts, while United Auto Workers Local 6000 and SEIU Local 517M had ratified theirs.
Under the deals, state unionized workers won't get a pay raise until October 2009, when they'll get 1 percent more. Their pay will increase 3 percent in fall 2010.
They'll also have to pay higher premiums and copays for health insurance, and won't be able to count sick days when overtime is being calculated.
