Strong wind keeps America's Cup boats off water
Comments 0 | Recommend 0VALENCIA, Spain (AP) - Strong wind has kept Alinghi and BMW Oracle from practicing for Race 1 of their America's Cup showdown.
Cup holder Alinghi decided against launching its catamaran on Tuesday in Valencia, Spain, while American challenger BMW Oracle launched its trimaran before eventually deciding to abandon a planned practice.
The first race was called off on Monday due to light, unsteady wind, pushing the start of the three-race series back to Wednesday.
Both teams are hoping for good conditions then, but are also expecting choppier waters. Another postponement would shift the first race to Friday.
The series follows 2½ years of acrimonious legal battles between the two teams, with the Mediterranean city hosting the match in less than ideal winter conditions.
